Meet Dr. Cassidy


Dr. Don Cassidy has a master's degree in orthodontics. His father Dr. Donald Cassidy, Sr. is a retired dentist from Fort Fairfield.

Background

Dr. Cassidy grew up in Fort Fairfield and graduated from Fort Fairfield High School in 1980 where he was Senior Class President and voted Best All-Around Senior.

Undergraduate Education

Dr. Cassidy attended the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana from 1980-1984. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1984.

Professional Education

He received his dental degree from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in 1988. Two years later, he earned a Master of Science Degree in Orthodontics from the Graduate Program in Orthodontics at St. Louis University, considered by many to be one of the top orthodontic programs in the country.

Honors and Awards

Dr. Cassidy has received many awards and qualified for many honor societies over the years. The most important and most significant is the Award of Special Merit that he received from the American Association of Orthodontists for his graduate thesis describing research comparing surgical and non-surgical orthodontic treatment of adult patients.

Published Research

Dr. Cassidy has been the lead author and co-author of several articles that have appeared in the American Journal of Orthodontics and other peer-reviewed orthodontic journals. He co-authored a chapter in an orthodontic textbook and also made a presentation of his research at a national meeting of the American Association of Orthodontists in Seattle, Washington.

Dental Organizations

Dr. Cassidy is a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, Maine Association of Orthodontists, Orthodontic Education and Research Foundation, the American Dental Association, Maine Dental Association, and Aroostook County Dental Society. He has been the Aroostook County delegate to the Executive Council of the Maine Dental Association and is currently the Vice President of the Aroostook County Dental Society.

Community Service

Dr. Cassidy and his wife Kathleen were co-chairmen of a community group that raised $50,000 for playground equipment at Mantle Lake Park. He is a member of the Presque Isle Rotary Club and co-chaired a special project which raised over $20,000 to start a Big Brothers Big Sisters program in Aroostook County. He also volunteers to help Maine Winter Sports with the races at the Nordic Heritage Center. Dr. Cassidy also helps coach a local youth basketball team.

Family

Dr. Cassidy is married to Kathleen Ledger Cassidy who is also an Aroostook County native and a Presque Isle High School and U.M.P.I. graduate. They have two children, Bennett and Brock.

Interests

Dr. Cassidy enjoys biking, golf, skiing, hunting, fishing, and watching his children play sports.
